May Newsletter Highlights:
Caregiver Support, Community Input, and Ways to Get Involved

May was a meaningful month at Alzheimer's of Central Alabama, with our Garden Art Party on May 9, which was a huge success and will continue to support our work. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend, donate auction items, and share information about the annual event.
From practical care ideas to special events and ways to give back, here are a few highlights from the month.
Caregiver Resources and Practical Support
This month's newsletters shared several resources designed to help caregivers feel more informed and supported. One featured the latest 2026 Alzheimer's Disease Facts & Figures Report from the Alzheimer's Association, along with caregiver support resources and upcoming educational opportunities.
One newsletter also highlighted a simple activity idea: creating a memory box. For families caring for someone with dementia, small activities like this can offer a gentle way to connect through familiar objects, photos, and keepsakes. A memory box does not need to be complicated. It can include items tied to favorite places, hobbies, family milestones, or everyday routines. The goal is not to test memory, but to create moments of comfort, conversation, and recognition.
These kinds of practical tools are an important part of caregiver support. They give families something manageable to try at home while honoring the person behind the diagnosis.

Raising Awareness Around Fraud Prevention
May also brought attention to National Senior Fraud Prevention Day and the importance of protecting older adults from scams and financial exploitation.
For families affected by Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia, fraud prevention can be especially important. Changes in memory, judgment, or decision-making may make someone more vulnerable to suspicious calls, emails, or requests for money. The newsletters encouraged awareness and education as part of caring well for loved ones.
Looking Ahead: Glow for a Cure
Coming up in June is our Glow for a Cure, ACA's night golf tournament taking place Friday, June 26, 2026, at Highland Park Golf Course.
Hosted by ACA's Junior Board, Glow for a Cure supports the Lindy Harrell Predoctoral Scholars Program at UAB and helps fund the next generation of Alzheimer's researchers. Participants can get involved as a foursome, individual player, spectator, or sponsor.
The event includes golf, dinner, music, auction opportunities, glowing gear, and a mission that matters: bringing hope to families across Alabama while supporting Alzheimer's research.
Thank You for Staying Connected
Whether you read the newsletters, shared feedback, registered for an event, supported a caregiver, or helped spread awareness, thank you for being part of ACA's work this month.
Every act of involvement helps strengthen support for Alabama families living with Alzheimer's and dementia.
