Wandering is one of the most common and frightening challenges families face when caring for someone with dementia.
Sixty percent of individuals will wander at least once, and many will do so repeatedly—often without recognizing danger or responding to their name when called. Project Lifesaver bracelets were created to meet this reality head-on. Through proven radio-frequency tracking technology and strong partnerships with local law enforcement, Alzheimer’s of Central Alabama connects families to a tool that dramatically shortens search times and increases the likelihood of a safe return. It’s a simple device with life-saving impact for families.
Saving Lives through Project
Lifesaver
The nature of dementia creates unique challenges to locating a wandering patient. They can easily become disoriented and can get lost in places that we would normally consider familiar, like their neighborhood or even their local Walmart. They may not hear and respond to attempts to call out to them. Patients are vulnerable and can succumb to the elements quickly. The bracelets have a 100% success rate in Alabama for safe returns. Project Lifesaver bracelets emit a radio-frequency signal that is only trackable by Sheriff's Departments. They are not GPS, but can be used in conjunction with a GPS system.
