Alzheimer’s of Central Alabama (ACA) is proud to announce the receipt of a grant from Cawaco RC&D in support of our Project Lifesaver Program. Project Lifesaver is the premier search and rescue program operated internationally by public safety agencies and is strategically designed for “at risk” individuals who are prone to the life-threatening behavior of wandering.
The primary mission of Project Lifesaver is to provide timely response to save lives and reduce potential injury for adults and children with the propensity to wander due to a cognitive condition. With this grant ACA has purchased 30 transmitter kits along with supplies such as bands, bracelets, and batteries. ACA staff jointly manages this program along with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Cawaco RC&D Council was established in 1979 and received 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in 1994. The council was founded to help coordinate the efforts of local businesses, governmental agencies, and citizen volunteers throughout Blount, Chilton, Jefferson, Shelby, and Walker counties. We are proud of our relationship with Cawaco and of the lasting impact they have made on our greater community.
